Ar Ymyl y Tir 2025 On Land's Edge - Pre-festival Gig

Adwaith - Live at TG, supported by Lafant

Still buzzing from their Solas Tour, Adwaith take to the stage at Theatr Gwaun on September 13th for our Pre-festival headline gig, supported by Pembrokeshire's own Lafant.

Hailing from the Welsh town of Carmarthen, Adwaith grew up surrounded by a rich tradition of Welsh-language indie-rock, and a tight-knit scene of experimental, artistically-minded bands that frequented their beloved local venue The Parrot. Inspired by the lineage of boldly experimental bands that emerged out of Wales in the ‘80s - Datblygu, Traddodiad Ofnus and Fflaps to name three groups spearheading new wave Welsh rock music at the time – Adwaith knew that they wanted to be similarly uncompromising in their own vision. When Hollie Singer, Gwenllian Anthony and Heledd Owen first went about founding their own band in 2015, they were also equally influenced by newer acts they’d seen playing at local indie venues and Welsh-Language music festivals, where they bore witness to another new wave of musicians wielding Welsh as an exciting musical instrument.

Growing up on the geographical and cultural edge of things has given Lafant's sound a unique urgency. The three-piece from the shores of the Irish Sea in north Pembrokeshire take inspiration from the 60s' British Invasion bands and American Surf Rock but also from the swagger of Britpop and the ankst of grunge. Their tight interplay underpins stories of love and lust, of youthful follies, jealousy and joy, sung with a sincerity gifted to those raised in the middle of nowhere.

Yn llawn bwrlwm ers dychwelyd o’u ‘Taith Solas’, mae Adwaith yn camu i'r llwyfan yn Theatr Gwaun ar Fedi 13eg ar gyfer ein prif gig ‘cyn Gŵyl’, gyda chefnogaeth band ifanc o Sir Benfro - Lafant.

Sefydlwyd Adwaith yn nhref Caerfyrddin.  Amgylchynwyd yr aelodau gan draddodiad cyfoethog indie-roc Cymraeg, a sîn glos o fandiau a fynychai eu hoff leoliad cerddorol, Y Parrot. Wedi’u hysbrydoli gan linach y bandiau arbrofol a ddeilliodd o Gymru yn yr 80au – Datblygu, Traddodiad Ofnus a Fflaps i enwi tri grŵp a oedd yn arwain cerddoriaeth roc Cymraeg ton newydd ar y pryd – dewisodd Adwaith eu hefelychu wrth fod yr un mor ddigyfaddawd yn eu gweledigaeth eu hunain. Pan aeth Hollie Singer, Gwenllian Anthony a Heledd Owen ati i sefydlu eu band eu hunain yn 2015, dylanwadwyd arnynt gan berfformwyr mwy newydd y gwelsant yn chwarae mewn lleoliadau annibynnol a gwyliau cerdd Cymreig, lle buont yn dyst i don newydd arall o gerddorion yn defnyddio’r Gymraeg fel offeryn cerdd cyffrous.

Mae tyfu fyny ar ymyl daearyddol pethau wedi rhoi brys unigryw i sain Lafant. Mae'r triawd o lannau Môr Iwerddon yng ngogledd Sir Benfro yn cymryd ysbydoliaeth o fandiau British Invasion y 60au a Surf Rock Americanaidd, ond hefyd o swagger Britpop ac ing Grunge. Mae eu rhyngchwarae tynn yn sail i straeon am gariad a chwant, am ffolineb ieuenctid, cenfigen a llawenydd, wedi'u canu â didwylledd sy'n nodweddiadol o'r sawl a fagwyd ym mhen draw nunlle.
