In 1960s Florida, Elwood’s college dreams are shattered when he is sentenced to Nickel Academy, an abusive reform school. Trying to cling to his optimistic worldview, Elwood strikes up a friendship with Turner, a fellow Black teen, who teaches him how to survive the school’s brutal and harrowing trials.
