Saturday 26 Sep 202613:30 (On Land's Edge ~ Ar Ymyl y Tir)

In celebration of the 70th anniversary of its release, On Land’s Edge presents a special screening of ‘Moby Dick’, which was filmed right here in Fishguard!

Largely filmed in Fishguard Bay, Moby Dick (1956), directed by John Huston and based on Herman Melville’s great American novel, follows young sailor named Ishmael (Richard Basehart) who joins the whaling ship The Pequod under the command of the brooding Captain Ahab, played by Gregory Peck.

The impressionable Ishmael and harpoonist Queequeg (Friedrich von Ledeber), who befriends him, join the ship’s crew despite the dire quayside warnings of a strange man named Elijah (Royal Dano) who tells them The Pequod is cursed and that all who sail with Ahab will meet their doom.

Ahab’s life is consumed by a vengeful obsession to hunt the giant white whale that maimed him, leaving him with an artificial leg carved out of whalebone.

As the movie unfolds, he leads the Pequod’s crew into a perilous, high‑stakes voyage in grim pursuit of his quarry, blind to the instincts and fears of others.

With powerful performances—especially Gregory Peck’s intense Ahab—and fine supporting roles played by Leo Genn (Starbuck), Orson Welles (Father Mapple) and Harry Andrews (Stubb), Moby Dick remains a gripping, memorable adaptation as the fanatical Ahab follows the great white whale to the ends of the earth on a quest which can only end in tragedy...

I ddathlu 70 mlynedd ers ei rhyddhau, mae On Land’s Edge yn cyflwyno dangosiad arbennig o ‘Moby Dick’, a ffilmiwyd yma yn Abergwaun!

Wedi’i ffilmio’n bennaf ym Mae Abergwaun, mae Moby Dick (1956), wedi’i gyfarwyddo gan ac yn seiliedig ar nofel Americanaidd wych Herman Melville. Mae morwr ifanc o’r enw Ishmael (Richard Basehart) yn ymuno â’r llong hela morfilod Y Pequod dan law Capten Ahab, a chwaraeir gan Gregory Peck.

Mae Ishmael yn un hawdd ei ddylanwadu, ond mae e a’r harpwnydd Queequeg (Friedrich von Ledeber), yn dod yn ffrindiau. Maent yn ymuno â chriw’r llong er gwaethaf rhybuddion difrifol ar y cei gan ddyn dieithr o’r enw Elijah (Royal Dano) sy’n dweud wrthyn nhw fod Y Pequod wedi’i felltithio a bod pawb sy’n hwylio gydag Ahab yn mynd i wynebu eu tynged.

Mae bywyd Ahab yn cael ei arwain gan obsesiwn dialgar i hela’r morfil gwyn enfawr a’i anafodd, gan ei adael â choes artiffisial wedi’i cherfio allan o asgwrn morfil.

Wrth i'r ffilm ddatblygu, mae Ahab yn arwain criw'r Pequod ar fordaith beryglus, llawn risgiau, wrth ddilyn ei ob sesiwn, heb sylwi ar reddfau ac ofnau eraill.

Gyda pherfformiadau pwerus—yn enwedig yr Ahab dwys gan Gregory Peck—a rolau cefnogol gwych a chwaraeir gan Leo Genn (Starbuck), Orson Welles (Father Mapple) a Harry Andrews (Stubb), mae Moby Dick yn parhau i fod yn addasiad gafaelgar a chofiadwy. Dilynwn y morfil gwyn mawr i ben draw'r ddaear ar daith na all ond orffen gyda thrasiedi...

I ddarllen rhaglen gŵyl Ar Ymyl Y Tir / On Land's Edge, ewch i https://onlandsedge.co.uk/ neu cysylltwch â'r Swyddfa Docynnau ar 01348 873421 neu boxoffice@theatrgwaun.com.

The Misanthrope

By Martin Crimp

after Molière

Director: Indhu Rubasingham/2026/UK

Award-winner Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) plays the title role in this razor-sharp reimagining of Molière’s classic dark comedy.

Telling the truth isn’t always that simple. Alice, a brilliant novelist, despises the carefully constructed lies of modern society. But the more she challenges those around her, the fiercer the backlash

becomes. Soon, she must confront the price of speaking her truth in a world that would rather silence her.

Filmed live on stage at the National Theatre, Indhu Rubasingham directs Martin Crimp’s (Cyrano de Bergerac) highly anticipated play.

The Misanthrope

By Martin Crimp

after Molière

Cyfarwyddwr: Indhu Rubasingham/2026/UK

Enillydd gwobrau Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) yn chwarae rôl y pennawd yn ail-lun cryf o gomedi dywyll glasurol Molière.

Nid yw dweud y gwir bob amser mor syml. Mae Alice, nofelydd rhagorol, yn casáu celwyddau wedi’u cynllunio’n ofalus cymdeithas gyfoes. Ond yr wythnos y mae’n herio’r rhai o’i chwmpas, y mwyaf disglair yw’r adweithiau gwrthwynebol. Yn fuan, rhaid iddi wynebu pris dweud ei gwir mewn byd a fyddai’n well ganddo ei thawelu.

Ffilmwyd yn fyw ar lwyfan yn Theatr Genedlaethol, ac mae Indhu Rubasingham yn gyfarwyddo ddrama ddisgwyliedig Martin Crimp (Cyrano de Bergerac).
