House of Dogs: The Last Barham Squires and the Curse of Trecwn

A hundred years ago, the Trecwn estate was the largest in North Pembrokeshire and included one of the most beautiful valleys in the county.  

Its last two squires, Francis Barham and his son Cyril, were not well respected, battling in court with local schoolmasters, clergymen, doctors, and other neighbours.  Their troubled lives cast a peculiar light on the decline of the county gentry.

Scott Free, Guitar

Scott is a retired Professor of Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music.  He has performed in Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, southern U.S.A. and throughout the New England area with various groups.  

Free’s musical works have been performed at jazz festivals/clubs in Scandinavia, Japan, New England, and the southern U.S.A. He has given clinics in composition and guitar in Scotland, Italy, Brazil, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Germany and Scandinavia.  Free’s musical compositions have been recorded by Kyoto Jazz Composer’s Orchestra.  His CD, Colaboração, with Neil Olmstead, is available on Spotify and other platforms.

Jay Azzolina, Guitar

Grammy nominated guitarist/composer Jay Azzolina has been part of the New York Jazz scene for the past three decades.  After leaving the “Berklee College of Music,” where Jay studied with Pat Metheny, Mick Goodrick and Charlie Banacos, the guitarist began working and recording in New York with a variety of artists. Beginning in a more electric setting and later transitioning to acoustic jazz, Jay’s associations include Michael Urbaniak, Herbie Mann, Jaco Pastorius,, Harvie S, Spyro Gyra, Dave Samuels, Kenny Werner, Chuck Mangione, Ron McClure, John Abercrombie, Jerry Bergonzi, The Westchester Jazz Orchestra and John Patitucci.  

Jay has also been a recurring accompanist for singers Michael Franks, Manhattan Transfer and Sheila Jordan. As a leader, Jay has recorded four CDs of original compositions with some of the most influential players in Jazz, including Chris Potter, Adam Nussbaum, Larry Goldings, Gary Versace,Tim Ries and Greg Hutchinson.  Jay continues to write and perform vigorously and will be releasing his fifth CD “Present Tense” on TRR records summer of 2025.

It’s March 1997 and, following 18 years of Tory rule, Britain is reaching a political crossroads. William Davies, a widower and retired quarryman, has reached his own crossroads. Having been a socialist all his life, he feels angry and bitter towards a government that has more or less forgotten him in his old age.

After being persuaded by his children to buy his council house in the booming 80s, he notices that the government, which took so much advantage of property ten years earlier, expects him to sell his property now in order to pay for his care if he had to go to a residential home.

As William Davies walks from his house one morning, he puts a desperate and absurd plan into action that will one-up the system – so he thinks. But things go wrong as the old man realises that he has made a terrible mistake.  As election day approaches, William Davies and his family learn a few truths - about each other, and about their true feelings about their home.

This is a film located in the north-west, which tackles the theme of home and, in particular, how different members of one family look at it.

On a stormy night, fate brings two strangers together, unleashing a love with the power to end worlds. Meanwhile, in the realm of the gods, an epic battle ensues between their ruler Wotan and his rebellious daughter, Brünnhilde.
