This year’s headline music gig at Theatr Gwaun sees an amazing lineup of local Welsh talent with two of the rising stars of the Welsh music scene, Lafant and Chwaer.
We kick off with Chwaer, performing as a duet, then in the second half the headliners Lafant will take us to the close.
Growing up on the geographical and cultural edge of things has given Lafant’s sound a unique urgency. The three-piece from the shores of the Irish Sea in north Pembrokeshire take inspiration from the 60s’ British Invasion bands and American Surf Rock but also from the swagger of Britpop and the angst of grunge. Their tight interplay underpins stories of love and lust, of youthful follies, jealousy and joy, sung with a sincerity gifted to those raised in the middle of nowhere.
Tentatively poised on a precarious ridge somewhere between the valleys of folk and chamber pop, Chwaer’s sound has developed over the past year into a behemoth of deep, confident harmonies, rolling drums and powerful piano. Dueting in a way only sisters can, with the angst that only teenage lives can muster, their piano driven epics are visceral, moving pieces, thanks in part to their sincere, heartfelt delivery, buoyed by their, and their band’s skilled musicianship.
Since releasing their debut single ‘Paid Troi Dy Gefn’, the sisters Emma and Lucy have played a score of support slots around Wales, and in 2026 will appear at Gŵyl Fel ‘Na Mai and Eisteddfod Y Garreg Las after winning the yearly Richard and Wyn Memorial Award. Their debut EP will be released later in 2026 on Fflach Cymunedol.

Bydd y ddeuawd swynol Chwaer yn agor y noson, ac yn yr ail hanner bydd y prif berfformwyr Lafant yn ein diddanu gyda set o’u caneuon gwreiddiol.
Mae tyfu i fyny ar ymyl daearyddol a diwylliannol pethau wedi rhoi naws unigryw i sain Lafant. Mae’r triawd o o Ogledd Sir Benfro yn cael eu hysbrydoli gan fandiau British Invasion y 60au ac American Surf Rock ond hefyd gan swagger Britpop a phryder grunge. Mae eu sain tynn yn sail i straeon am gariad a chwant, am ffolineb ieuenctid, cenfigen a llawenydd. Mae eu steil perfformio yn arddangos y didwylledd a roddir i’r rhai a fagwyd yng nghefn gwlad.
Yn sefyll yn betrusgar ar gopa ansicr rhywle rhwng cymoedd cerddoriaeth werin a phop siambr, mae sain Chwaer wedi datblygu dros y flwyddyn ddiwethaf i fod yn glorwth o harmonïau dwfn, hyderus, drymiau byrlymus a phiano pwerus. Gan ganu deuawdau mewn ffordd na all ond chwiorydd ei gyflawni, gyda'r emosiwn na all ond bywydau pobl ifanc ei ddatgan, mae eu epics piano yn ddarnau gweledol, cyffrous, diolch yn rhannol i'w cyflwyniad diffuant, llawn calon, wedi'i atgyfnerthu gan eu chwarae medrus nhw a'u band.
Ers rhyddhau eu sengl gyntaf 'Paid Troi Dy Gefn', mae'r chwiorydd Emma a Lucy wedi chwarae sgôr o slotiau cefnogi ledled Cymru, ac yn 2026 byddant yn ymddangos yng Ngŵyl Fel 'Na Mai ac Eisteddfod Y Garreg Las ar ôl ennill Gwobr Goffa Richard a Wyn.
