The ‘Fishguard Invasion’ was a serious event, men were killed on both sides and women were raped. Almost immediately, stories of women in red livery appeared and acts of individual heroism would be associated above all with Jemima Nicholas.

The telling and retelling of the story peaked at times of fear of invasion and war. Resilient to public doubt and professional scorn the ‘legend’ of the women survived as popular ‘myth’ if not as history.  

The talk will investigate the event, how it was recorded, depicted over time, and its lasting impact.

While on a late-night train journey home, a writer is tormented by memories of his mother's descent into mental illness many years earlier and her committal to an institution. Through him, this genre-bending film explores grief, memory and the transformative power of artistic creativity.

FISHGUARD FESTIVAL OF MUSIC

Pedair, feminine form of 'pedwar' ('four' in Welsh) draws on the talents of four of Wales' most prominent and award-winning folk artists: Gwenan Gibbard, Gwyneth Glyn, Meinir Gwilym and Siân James. Groundbreaking international artists in their own right, all four thrive on collaboration and the thrill of live performance.

Together they bring to life traditional material with new arrangements on harps, guitars, piano and accordion. Their live performances have captured the imaginations and hearts of audiences with their sweeping harmonies, fresh interpretations of the Welsh folk tradition, and intimacy of songwriting.

Their first recordings, having emerged during lockdown, gained instant popularity, unexpectedly becoming a source of comfort and hope to many. Having won the ‘Albym Cymraeg y Flwyddyn’ (Welsh Album of the Year Award) at the National Eisteddfod in 2023, with their debut album, ‘Mae ’na Olau’, released by Sain, their much anticipated second album, 'Dadeni', was released in November 2024. They have performed extensively in Wales and recently at festivals in Europe and Canada. In November 2025 they undertook a very successful concert tour in Patagonia.

Coltrane Dedication is a Welsh jazz collective devoted to the emotional power and fearless improvisation of John Coltrane’s later music. Formed when five musicians realised they were due to play together on the 40th anniversary of Coltrane’s death, the group committed to exploring his catalogue with intensity, freedom and deep respect.

They don’t perform tributes — they channel the visceral spirit, fire and forward‑driving creativity of Coltrane’s 1960–67 period, using his compositions as a springboard for their own passionate, contemporary improvisation.
